I was taken aback at how impressed I was with this story. You created compelling characters, an interior logic to your fantasy world, and a well-crafted narrative all in the space of a short story--something many full-length fantasy novels fail to do so well. Thank you for that.

A very intriguing story from start to finish that hints at a much larger world.

This is a really nice story that feels like the beginning of a longer work, or possibly an alternate-viewpoint story. Either way, it's an intriguing taste of a different world. I especially enjoyed the themes of redemption and love and honor that are the clear backbones. It might have been nice to see a little more of the main character's monstrous side at the beginning, but overall it's a solid tale told well.

Very nicely woven tale with vivid images and a continual surprise around nearly every corner. It's also very rich in detail and the sense that Abbey's worked out her story's ground rules well in advance of the writing.
