Now the Family is Hooked on EVE Online
Read this Friday afternoon, by Saturday morning hubby & I and our two teenagers each had our own accounts in EVE Online. We are all hooked and I love the fact it is teaching business and economic skills to the kids.

Thanks for writing this article. Always thrilled to find new entertainment that is conservative and fun.

Alternate History
Another one that really surprised me. It read like an old pulp sci-fi (which I like), only it had some familiar names from the early astronaut programs.

Fun and well-done.

Qualifies as a first place for me
I have been reading the entries and have not yet finished, but I have to say, so far this is the First Place winner as far as I am concerned. Your writing is excellent and your plot line is very, very good. I liked that little twist near the beginning; I didn't see it coming and I also didn't see that twist at the end. This should have gotten first place in my opinion. Your message satisfied the assignment much better than the one that got First Place and again, darn good writing.

Left me wanting more
I knew what was going on from almost the first sentence, but it was written well enough I had to keep going.

Just wish I knew a little bit more. That she remembered him as an airman suggested that he died during the war, but I wonder. Nifty that her great grandson can see what she does. Something being said there.

Thank you for sharing this.

How Far We've Come
That's definitely a Memorial Day story. Quite touching, as I expected it to be.

The juxtaposition of the narratives made this work. As much as America and Americans are envied and despised around the world (and at home, quite frankly), there's still remnants of generations in places like western Europe and South Korea who feel quite differently about the American soldier.

Hardboiled Surprise
Not at all what I was expecting for a Memorial Day story. And yet, it has elements I've been familiar with--the military, football, and pit bulls.

The style of the narration was just right, as was the "warrior" callback. Seems to me a pretty obvious slam on Michael Vick, who deserves at least a literary slam. The American Pit Bull is a fantastic breed with a bad rep mostly because scumbag humans mistreat and abuse the dogs to make them mean.

A quick read with a satisfying ending. Glad I took the time to read it.

Very good
It's a good tale, and right on point as to the objective of the assignment, no question about it, but the writing goes beyond that. It was a very good job of building suspense, creating that question that kept us reading. Adroit writing, my friend. The only thing I regret is that you left us hanging, but maybe that was what you intended.

Reads quickly
The story reads quickly and it is an interesting tale, but for the life of me, I cannot figure out what it has to do with wartime sacrifices of our troops which was the point of the whole competition. But, you got first place so what do I know? One thing I would like to mention is that Marines are "Leathernecks," not "leatherheads." Look up the term "Leathernecks" and see the interesting history. The term "leather heads," however, usually refers to the early football players, when the game was in its infancy and so was the protective headgear.
