What you need to know about posting in Liberty Island's Open Range
Open Range FAQ
How do I post my stuff on Open Range?

Just click "Submit New Creation" at the top of the page and follow the simple instructions. You can type directly in the box or copy and paste your content from a text file. Don't forget to convert your file to plain text first. Then go through and correct any formatting issues--missing punctuation, line breaks, etc. NB: there are no special formatting options (italics, bold, underline, etc.).

What should I put in the header?

Whatever you put in the header will scroll through the Island Feed on our homepage. Space is strictly limited so please confine yourself to the essentials. In most cases, title and author will do. If you are posting a novel excerpt, we suggest you add a chapter number and an Amazon link. If your novel is not already published, you can invite readers to contact you directly if they wish to read more. NOTE: Once it is saved, the header goes into our database and cannot be changed.

What is my posting limit?

You can post up to 2000 words at a time. Anything beyond that will be automatically cut off.

What if I want to post more than 2000 words?

Each new post initiates a thread that allows reader comments. You may therefore choose to publish an initial post and then add to it by entering additional content in a reader comment box. If you are going to do this, we recommend that you add a note at the bottom of the first post that says "continue reading below." You should also note "excerpt continues" in the comment box below. Do not change the header since this may make it difficult for readers to find it in a search later on. Please limit yourself to no more than three installments.

Can I add an Amazon link to my post?

Yes, when you create a new Open Range post, there's a box you can use to add a link to an Amazon product. This is especially useful if you're posting an excerpt from a novel you've already published and you'd like to direct folks to where they can buy it. What you'll need is the 10-digit ASIN (Amazon Standard Identification Number) or 10-digit ISBN-10 number of the book you are linking to. You can find one or both of these numbers on the Amazon product page, in the Product Description section.

Do I need a Creator Page account?

No, you can post to Open Range as a Registered User. However, it is recommended that you apply for a Creator account especially if you want to promote your other works, tell readers more about yourself, or post longer works on the site. If you are interested in becoming a Liberty Island Creator, go here.

How do I know if my stuff is a good fit with Liberty Island?

Liberty Island is the place for conservative, libertarian and independent writers and other creators to publish work for a likeminded audience. We don't want to impose strict guidelines for what constitutes 'conservative fiction,' but in general, we think it should reflect a commitment to American values of freedom and individualism without being overtly partisan, didactic or heavy-handed. If Ayn Rand were to submit "Atlas Shrugged" to us today we would probably encourage her to post an excerpt on Open Range and suggest that she join one of our writing workshops.

What can I do to promote my story?

Each Open Range story has its own unique URL, which means you can post a link to it anywhere--on your own website, through social media, on your Amazon page...anywhere your friends, family and fans are likely to see it. Just copy the address from the browser when you're in the story, and that's the permanent link to your content. In addition, Open Range content cycles through the Island Feed on the Liberty Island homepage. Posts that are more popular will appear in the feed more frequently, so it pays to promote your work early and often.
