Mary Grabar made her way to the United States as a toddler atop her fatheraEUs shoulders as her parents escaped from then communist Yugoslavia (specifically Slovenia), crossing the river into Austria. She grew up in Rochester, New York, and now lives in the Atlanta area. In 2002, she earned her Ph.D. in English from the University of Georgia, and has since then taught in a number of colleges in Georgia, and has been writing nonfiction, fiction, and poetry for such publications as Front Page Magazine, Accuracy in Media, PJ Media, Weekly Standard, Minding the Campus, Roll Call, Pedestal, St. AnnaEUs Review, and Ballyhoo. In 2011, she founded the Dissident Prof Education Project, Inc., www.dissidentprof.com, which is committed to aEUoeresisting the re-education of America,aEU a motto that is homage to the resistance against the communist takeover of her native land. She filed for nonprofit status with the IRS in February 2013.
